Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun has reiterated her commitment to zero tolerance for gender based violence.

Mrs. Abiodun stated this at the commissioning of the State’s first Sexual Assault Referral Centre supported by the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu.

She noted that the commissioning of the Center was in line with the Prince Dapo Abiodun’s mission of providing qualitative and affordable health care for the people through provision of medical examination and treatment for victims of gender based violence.

She appreciated all stakeholders who worked towards the success of the Centre, imploring them to make judicious use of the facility and continue to support the present administration in its fight against gender based violence.

In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker appreciated the effort of UNFPA for supporting the State Government in its fight against gender based violence, soliciting for building of such centers in the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

She explained the significance of the colour of the Centre to include purple which signifies restoration of the survivor’s dignity, orange which signifies restoration of confidence, joy and emotional balance of the victim, while white signifies a fresh start.

In her remarks, representative of UNFPA, Mrs. Ulla Elizabeth Muella, explained that the Center would help survivors regain confidence and hope after treatment as gender based violence was a crime against the victim be it male or female which she said, must stop.
