Residents and leaders of a community in Otta, Ogun in the Southern part of Nigeria have sent a Save-Our-Souls message to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Alkali Baba Usman and Ogun State Governor, Prince Dabo Abiodun over the activities of alleged land grabbers who, at will pounce on them and unleash terror.
They alleged that, in their atrocious style, the land grabber invaded their community last week, at the end, audaciously unleashed terror on them, saying that a medical practitioner with the General Hospital, Ota, Dr Kunle Adeniyi and one other person, Mr Seun Omosanya sustained severe injuries as they were attacked by these hoodlums allegedly sponsored by a notorious land grabber, Chief Mutairu Owoeye.
The two persons were attacked at Ajambata in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government area of Ogun State.
The Traditional head of the village, Chief Oluremi Odunaro, narrating the incident said the thugs, numbering about twenty swooped on the village with dangerous weapons, ready to maim or kill anyone who dared them, which made the residents scampered for dear lives.
He said the hoodlums entered their village at about 2pm, shouting that the residents must leave as the land they have been occupying hundreds of years now belong to their client, Chief Owoeye.
Chief Odunaro said the attack was not the first, adding that they have suffered several attacks from the land speculators in the past, which claimed three lives, with many others wounded, adding that all the attacks were masterminded by Chief Owoeye who at every time, has been claiming that his clients were the owners of their land.
The Traditional head of the land said that at every attack, just like that of last week one, they reported to the police at Atan police division but the police had never made a single arrest as Chief Owoeye, they gathered would have bribed the police before his thugs would carry out their nefarious activities.
Chief Odunaro called on the State Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, Inpector General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman and the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to save them from constant attacks by Chief Owoeye while lamenting that the land grabber had sold all the land they were using for farm, that and he was bent on selling the land upon which they built their houses.
One of the persons who sustained severe injuries in the recent attacks, Mr Seun Omosanya, an artisan, narrating his ordeal in the hands of the hoodlums said about six of the hoodlums descended on him, beat him with dangerous weapons which made him sustained severe injuries.
He lamented that with blood stains all over him, he ran to the Atan division of the Nigeria Police to report and the Police personnel told him to go and treat himself and report back so that they could effect the arrest of the hoodlums who they were aware always stationed at the entrance of the village.
He said when he reported back to the police division, the Policemen only to be told him to go back home that the hoodlums would be arrested. “And up till now, nobody has been arrested for the crime by the police”,he explained.
Our reporter visited the village and at the entrance, under a shed, some young men about, numbering up to fifteen, suspected to be the alleged thugs sat there chatting.
Some of the villagers who pleaded for anonymity for fear of being attacked said the hoodlums were those young men, saying that they live in perpetual fear, because the boys might descend on them any time.
It would be recalled that the land grabber allegedly shot dead a young school leaver, Master Bidemi Akinde some years back at Oke Ore village in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government and was arraigned in court following which he was remanded at Abeokuta correctional facility, but the alleged sponsor of the gang
Chief Owoeye spent about three months in detention but found his way out of the correctional facility.
When our reporters spoke to Chief Owoeye on phone on the incident, he said the boys were not from him.
