As the Nigerian nation, and indeed the world is grappling with the plethora of issues bothering on economy, the Leadership of Remo Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (RECCIMA) has offered a recipe for its growth.
In a chat with with our team, the Executive Secrtary of RECCIMA, Prince Abiodun Ogunlesi said for a country to grow economically its small and Medium Enterprises segment must be up and doing in order to make any significant contributions as this would bring about positive effect on the overall development of such a country.
Ogunlesi who disclosed that Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture were primarily targeted to take care and accommodate private Small and Medium Enterprises stressed that when the people in this sector of the economy come together they would be able to form one veritable body that could cater for the individual as well as collective needs of their members. “You know the multinational and Blue chips companies can access huge loans but small and Medium Enterprises, membership of the chamber provides soft landing, in the form of loans for the class of people.
Ogunlesi said that RECCIMA was formed in the early 70s with Asiwaju Solomon Kayode Onafowokan as Chairman Board of Trustees and that since its inception has been able to accomplish greatly in Remo, having been able to wither the storm of harsh business climate and the murky terrain of Small and Medium Enterprises in Remoland.
He disclosed that the Chamber was currently repositioning to accommodate more members in the privately run small and Medium Enterprises, projecting on the exigent need to capture as many trade groups as possible in the new arrangements and drive.
The Executive Secretary of RECCIMA disclosed that doors of opportunities have been opened to as many potential members as possible, disclosing that the chamber currently, in its trade groups has farmers who are into Water Melons production.
According to him, “The more the merrier. our doors are open to all segments of Small and Medium Enterprises such as Traders, Marketers, Beauticians, Carpenters, Transporters, Cobblers etcetera”, he stressed.
Ogunlesi said that as much as he wouldn’t want to preempt the record of achievements of the out-going President or unveil the blueprint of the incoming President, he would simply disclose that the forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the chamber would be a platform to roll out the new impetus for business development
In his own contribution, Apostle K. S. Afuwape, the incoming President of Remo Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture disclosed that efforts were in top gear to strengthen the chamber to be able to cater more for its numerous members.
He stated that as the leadership of the chamber were on membership drive, plans were also afoot to increase its funding to be able to meet the needs of members.
Afuwape told our team that, aside from funding, they were also repositioning the chamber to be able to offer referrer service or act as backbones for members. He therefore used the platform to call on more people in the Small Scale Business to join them and avail themselves of the opportunities its membership offers
