Niger State wing of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) have commended the State government for setting up the civil servant screening committee. The commendation was made in a statement issued by the Principal Assistant Secretary of the Union, comrade Labaran Garba.
The Union said the screening exercise was to ensure decent, discipline and genuine workforce in the state civil service.
The statement however added that the attention of the Union has been drawn to a media publication where the chairman of the screening committee, Engineer Muhammed Ibrahim Panti said eighty percent of Ministry of Education staff possessed fake certificates.
The Union observed that such statement was defamatory and unacceptable as the screening exercise was ongoing and that the committee had not submitted it’s report.
The Union therefore called on the screening committee to immediately retract the allegation statements.
While also stating clearly that it would continue to synergize with the organised labour and the state government in partnership towards it’s efforts to ensure a decent, discipline and genuine workforce in the state.
It further said it would not relent in protecting the interests of the teachers and teaching profession. The Union then reminded all Teachers under the employment of state government who have outstanding issues not to hesitate to visit a centre which is located at David Umar road Minna, before 24 September this year for clearance and to avoid being declared absconded.
