Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has lauded officers and men of the Nigerian Army for their efforts at preserving the corporate existence of the country.
Prince Abiodun gave the commendation when he received the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Godwin Umelo, who paid a courtesy visit to him at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, applauding the Army for supporting other law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace in the State.
According to the Governor, ‘’Ogun, being a unique location as an industrial hub of the country, provides employment opportunity and could also be a veritable ground for criminal activities, hence the need for the State to upgrade its security architecture’’.
“We have procured 100 patrol vehicles and about 200 motorcycles, equipped with communication gadgets to allow our security agencies communicate effectively with each other during distress situations, anywhere in the State”, he said.
Prince Abiodun also acknowledged the Army’s service during the Covid-19 lock down, which he noted assisted the government in containing the spread of the pandemic, calling for more collaboration between the State and the Army.
He expressed worry over the State inability to fill its quota in the Army, attributing it to lack of awareness, promising that government would ensure people take advantage of the opportunity provided by the force.
Speaking earlier, the Major General, said he was in the State to tour formations under his Command, noting that security was a collective responsibility and all hands must be on deck to secure the society.
While outlining the role of security agencies in securing the nation, he urged government to encourage people to enlist in the force, so as to fill the State’s quota in the Army.
