Leaders have been admonished to serve the people their leading with unalloyed commitment and civility.

This advice was given today by Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos and Bishop, Diocese of Remo, The Most Reverend, Dr. N. Olusina Fape during the installation of Chief David Kolowole Sodipo as the Baba Ijo of St. James Anglican Church, Iperu Remo, Ogun State.

Bishop Fape educated the people that whoever is saddled with any leadership position wherever institution or government should not see himself or her as above the people but see that position as a call to serve the people.

He stressed, ” if you are privileged to be appointed, voted or selected for any leadership position, be it in the church, community, or government, you should use such position to serve the people and not intimidate them. Leadership is a call to serve.”

He stressed further, to be appointed at all is an Honour because you are not the most intelligent, your are not the most beautiful or handsome. You may not be the most financially endowed, hence if you are chosen among others, it is really an honour that one must not allow to slip away.”

The Cleric described the new Baba Ijo as one whose life should be emulated for his love for his people, his commitment to the development of his community and the church in its entirety.

He said he had always committed himself to the service of the Lord by making valuable contributions to the body of Christ both financially and materially, describing him as a devoted and dependable person.

Responding to our Editorial team’s question, the Baba Ijo, Chief Sodipo said all that he had done in his life, he did for God, not expecting any rewards from man.

He disclosed his joy was immeasurable because he was not expecting it. ” Quite honestly I don’t know how to describe how I feel. I’m immensely grateful to God. This is an indescribable joy.

Chief Mrs. Ronke Salako, Iya Ijo St. Mathias Anglican Church, Isote, Sagamu rejoice with the new Baba Ijo and prayed to God to strengthen him for the vineyard.

She said to be chosen just like the Bishop said, was a call to service by contributing to the growth of the church.

She said she has been installed Iya Ijo of the church since 10 years ago and has been making her own modest contributions.

She opined, judging From the glowing statements made about Chief Sodipo, she had no iota of doubt that his tenure would lift the church to a greater height.
