The leadership of Accord Party in the Ogun State has denied adopting Ogun state governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka.
It will be recalled that a few days ago, Accord Party Chairman in the state, Elder Isiaka Amusa together with some party members on Monday adopted the ADC governorship candidate, Prince Gboyega Nusiru Isiaka as their party candidate.
The Publicity Secretary of Accord Party, Asojuoba Michael Adesanya at a press conference held at NUJ Press Centre in Abeokuta on Thursday February maintained that, Sir Tope Tokoya remained the party’s governorship candidate.
He described the activities of the party’s Chairman, Elder Amusa as “simply political prostitution”, saying they would not accommodate such character any longer.
He declared there was never a time the State Working Committee (SWC) passed vote of no confidence on the candidature of Sir Tope Tokoya, adding there was no resolution by the SWC of Executive decision to embark on adoption of any candidate from other political parties
Accord Party spokesman further explained that, the state Chairman alongside five other members of the party have been engaging in anti-party activities following the defeat of the chairman’s “imaginary” candidate during the primaries of the party.
He therefore called party members to remain resolute and believe in the mandate of Tokoya, stressing that, the party would not allow moneybags politicians to hijack the structure of the party in the state.
According to him, “You will agree with me that this is not the best time for internal crisis within a political party and that is why we have continued to hesitate in acting against the few disgruntled elements who have continued to flout the constitution of our great party”.
“There has never been any question about the fact Pastor (Sir) Tope Tokoya is the elected gubernatorial candidate. Additionally his candidature has indeed been confirmed by INEC”.
Adesanya revealed that they were in possession of various documents about the anti party activities of a five-man gang led by the State Chairman, Elder Isiaka Amusa, whose imaginary candidate lost out in the party’s primaries.
He asked, “Must one destroy his political party because he lost in a political party’s primary he organized? The gang has continued to hawk the gubernatorial candidacy of our party to all the known political figures in Ogun state”.
He disclosed that the infamous gang have met APM gubernatorial candidate, AbdulKadir Akinlade. They have also Lado Adebutu, of Peoples Democratic party (PDP), met Paseda, Buruji, Dapo and they have failed. Their newest victim is GNI.
“You will recall that about three weeks ago they openly declared for Prince Dapo Abiodun. This is simply political prostitution and we do not have room for such persons in our party built on integrity”.
Accord Party governorship candidate, Sir Tope Tokoya said he did not believe in jamboree and flamboyant political campaign.
Tokoya stressed that, he had embarked on house-to-house campaign to convince the electorate on his seven-point agenda for the state.
He denied collecting N100million from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing such allegation calculated by the Amusa led gang to justify his anti-party activities.
