The Apapa Customs Command of the Nigeria Customs Services (NCS) has generated Four Hundred and Four Billion, Twenty Million, Four Hundred and Fourty Seven Thousand, Seven Hundred and Ninety one Naira, Forty Two Kobo ( #404,020,447,791.42 k).
The Customs Area Controller of the command, Bashir Abubakar during a Media briefing, as part of the command’s activities, told newmen recently in his command that the figure was 13.13% higher than the figure for 2017 which was N350.9 billion.
According to the Controller, the increase in revenue was made possible because of the selfless efforts of the officers and men of the command with the support received from the Controller General of Customs, Col. Hammed Ali (Rtd.) and his management team.
Mr. Bashir Abubakar added that some other strategies implemented by the command also helped to block most revenue leakages and enhanced trade facilitation and security.
He disclosed that to curb smuggling, the command seized 72 containers of various general goods such as Spare parts, used tyres and other sundry goods with duty paid value (DPV) N9.62billion in the year 2018.
The Controller stated that in the year under review the command seized and condemned a total of 41X40ft containers of controlled pharmaceutical drugs including Tramadol in excess of the allowable milligram with duty paid value (DPV) of N8.812billion.
The command furthermore intercepted and seized one export bound used helicopeter with registration number 58n valued of 210.6 million and one importer bound aircraft “Cessna 182a” in CKD with serial no: 3400 valued at N486.9 million.
Bashir Abubakar at the occasion presented an award of honour to some outstanding officers of the command among whom were Mr. Odangla Peters, a staff officer at the Central Intelligence Units (CIU) Apapa Area command.
